how long does it take to shoot a portrait?

The length of time given to each portrait will depend on the requirement and usage of the images. Standard head shots for intranet/presentations/website/newsletters etc typically involve one background and lighting set-up which might only require 10 to 20 minutes per person.

A more varied shoot with three or four location and lighting changes requires approximately an hour to produce the best quality shots.

For an in-depth editorial style shoot generating a range of images - involving a wide variety of different locations, lighting and possibly even changes of clothing - typically requires around three hours.
